MY STORY

I've had race cars on mind since I was tiny. Instead of watching kid shows, my parents say I insisted on watching Super Speedway narrated by Mario Andretti over and over.

It wasn't until age 12, though, that I turned what was on my mind into action. For a grade school project about goals, I said I wanted to become the youngest driver at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That set in motion a life dedicated to the sport and rapid personal development in the junior single-seater and prototype ranks. I accomplished the goal at age 16 years and 202 days.

Today my mission is to become one of the greatest sports car drivers.

Commentaries

  • “Racing is not a nice sport. Fortunately though there are nice guys within the sport, one of which is Matt. Besides his speed and natural talent, he is someone who is thoughtful in his work both in and out of the race car. He is that team player you want whether it is day one of a long race week or in the waning hours of a big race.” - Patrick Lindsey, Team Owner, Park Place Motorsports
  • “Matt’s so quick and so mature that we have to keep reminding ourselves that he’s only 18.” - Michael Shank, Team Owner, Michael Shank Racing    
  • “Matt’s hallmark is focus. He was setting world records at an age when most kids are just struggling to wake up on the weekends.” - Chris Dyson, Sporting Director, Dyson Racing
  • “Matt is impressive on so many levels. His speed is balanced by a quiet confidence and analytical approach to challenges — both in and out of a racing car — which I find uncommon for someone his age.” - Paul Pfanner, CEO, Racer Media
